The Experience

There’s a lovely quiet feel to the Scorff valley and setting out on foot or on a bike, maybe after a lazy coffee and croissant breakfast, feels wonderful. Coming back to soak in the big outdoor hot tub rounds things off nicely.

You stay in one of two granite cottages, each with French windows bringing in lots of light and with your own hornbeam-hedged garden behind. You’re welcome to wander the main gardens which are beautifully planted and you’ll find local produce like cheese, cakes and biscuits waiting for you in the well-equipped kitchens.

Walk into the local village where there is a good restaurant open Thursdays to Sundays, explore towns and medieval Pontivy; stunning coastal beaches are an hour’s drive for a day out with a picnic, and lake swimming is nearer at the impressive Lac de Guerlédan half an hour away. There are pretty walks along forest trails around the lake too.

Reviews

The place and the cottage are wonderful. Located in a quiet and peaceful environment. The Host Aurélie is fantastic and makes one feel totally at home and welcome. The Orchard Barn is a small and fully equipped perfect for a couple as us. Location wise you are in the middel of loads of fun things to to, all within 1 hour drive. We had perfect dines in close by restaurants and great visit to Pont-aven and the beaches. Great place to be.

Jan, Hattem

A delightful cottage, tucked away in the depths of Brittany, but within easy reach of the delights of the region. Aurélie is a gem, and thinks of everything to make your stay enjoyable. Soaking in the hot tub, on a clear night, tracking satellites and shooting stars was truly memorable.

Judy, Salisbury

Nestled in the verdant countryside Jasmine Cottage was peaceful, homely, very well equipped and a perfect place to spend the week. Aurélie was kind & helpful and the thoughtful touches in the cottage were very much welcomed. The garden was our haven; secluded with a backdrop of impressive colourful hydrangeas and the sound of birdsong. Charming Guémené-sur-Scorff and Pontivy were nearby so we did not have to travel far for lunch out followed by a picturesque afternoon stroll but it was only an hour away to some stunning beaches. A relaxing and enjoyable week.

Emma, London

We had a great week in Orchard Barn. The highlights. A totally relaxing afternoon reading in the sunshine and listening to the birds in our very own back garden. Some wonderful meals out following recommendations from our hostess.. Playing petanque on our drive. Visiting some wonderful places and markets. Enjoying the quiet roads. In those immortal words of Arnie. We will be back.

John, Hereford

Jasmine cottage was the most well equipped and comfortable Gîte you could wish for. With a welcome basket too of regional treats, thank you Aurélie. We relished the peace and quiet of deepest rural Brittany and the lush green countryside where the main sounds were only of birdsong. Using the bird up app we had fun identifying so many different birds. Cycling was a pleasure on the quiet roads and on the towpath along the Nantes to Brest canal. You can ride for miles. The old buildings and flowers in the courtyard were great subject matter for John's painting. A memorable stay.

Frances & John, Appleby in Westmorland

Well equipped and helpful and friendly owners. We wanted for nothing on this stay. I have used many self catering cottages over the years and Jasmine Cottage was simply superb. Even down to sharp knives so the ones I took with me stayed in my bag. Aurelie lives on the premises and she keeps a low profile, but is always available if you want any advice, help with restaurant recommendations and bookings, supper cooked for you etc. We went to experience the cycling in the immediate area and further afield and weren’t disappointed. We had such a lovely stay and would definitely visit again.

Jo, Dorking

We stayed for one week in Orchid Barn cottage in central/rural Brittany. Aurélie was an outstanding host who was readily available and provided great advice. She even offered warmer jackets when the weather turned colder than we had expected. The cottage was nicely decorated ,comfortable ,and very clean. Kitchen was well equipped to prepare meals with ingredients from local markets in Pontivy and Vannes. The peace and quiet here was great to recharge after touring. local villages central and coastal. We would recommend this cottage to our friends and hope to return ourselves some day.

What an absolute treasure. Our hostess Aurélie gave us a warm welcome and was always available if we needed anything. The cottage was filled with all the useful little extras that make the difference, from a basket of food goodies, jam and honey to a face mask in the bathroom. Honestly, it’s like every thing a traveler could with for and a bit more. The location is rural and beautifully peaceful but a quick hop to Guémené-sur-Scorff for shopping or Pontivy for lunch; the coast is an easy drive too. Most important, the kitchen was well equipped and the bed very comfortable. It’s a fantast

Sarah, Chard

Set in a peaceful bucolic location, it’s restful and restorative to stay in the Orchid Barn. The cottage is very well equipped, the welcome goodies were delightful, the shower nice and big, and the bed incredibly comfortable. There are so many places to visit within a reasonable drive that we could have done with staying longer. Last, but definitely not least, is the warm welcome we received from Aurélie, who was solicitous without being too much, and for whom nothing was too much trouble. I’m certain this won’t be our only visit!

Sarah, Chard

We have just spent a delightful week at Orchid Gite. The hosts are most accommodating proving a lovely welcome hamper of food and wine, whilst also arranging restaurants bookings for us. The Gite is small but perfectly sized for a couple with a private and secluded garden. It is a 3km walk to the village where there is a wonderful auberge/bistro. En route, about 1.5km is a lake with a great little bar. Highly recommended this Gite and its wonderful hosts.

Phil, Penrith

An easy drive from Roscoff, handy for supermarkets and good local restaurants nearby, both cottages are tastefully furnished with everything needed for a care free holiday (washing machine, dishwasher, ample hot water, UK TV). Set in a quiet country area, ideal for walking and cycling, with historical towns and the coast not far away, Aurelie is a very caring and thoughtful hostess who can arrange cooked meals, restaurant bookings etc and has fluent English! It really is a delightful spot - we've just returned from our 5th visit and it just keeps getting better.

Bill, Newton Stewart

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our 5 nights in Orchid Barn - such a spacious, light and warm cottage on one level. We self-catered so appreciated the well equipped kitchen and supply of store cupboard essentials (eg oil, vinegars etc). We went to most of the places mentioned by other visitors (and described in information folder) and were particularly wowed by the standing stone “alignments” in Carnac. To have our own private garden was an added bonus.

Jenny, Gloucester

We've just come back from a wonderful week staying in Jasmine Cottage. The cottage was lovely, the location great, and Aurelie was the perfect hostess - there for us when needed, but leaving us to our own devices most of the time. The meals she provided were delicious. Although we didn't use the hot tub, I did venture out on one of the bikes. We will certainly be back.

Micky, Looe

We spent 12 nights in Orchard Barn during a visit to nearby family. The gite was very well equipped, peaceful and comfortable and met all our needs. We particularly enjoyed the garden which must be even more attractive in summer. The Jacuzzi was a real bonus which the grandchildren loved. Thank you Aureilie for your hospitality. We certainly intend to return.

David and Jennifer, London

We spent a wonderful, restful, quiet week at Jasmine Cottage mostly enjoying the garden as well as sightseeing and walking. Aurélie was a perfect hostess, nothing was too much trouble, the jacuzzi was a great treat after a day out, and we have booked again in 2024 for two weeks as one week was not long enough. Thank you Aurélie for your warm and generous hospitality.

Jeremy and Anne, Bath

We had a wonderful time in Jasmine Cottage. Clean, comfortable with a relaxed vibe and a very well equipped kitchen. A superb location, peaceful and tranquil but very accessible to the stunning coastline and the beautiful towns in the area. A perfect destination for cycling and walking made possible by quiet roads and miles of canal paths. A week was not long enough to explore further afield, we will definitely be back. Brittany is a hidden gem!

Nikki, Abergavenny

We stayed for a week in the Orchid barn. It was excellent! The property was spotlessly clean. It was very well equipped and everything worked properly. Bed was very comfortable with good quality bedlinen.Hosts Aurélie and Lahcène were very helpful and friendly with some good suggestions for excursions. Strongly recommended!

Ken, Sevenoaks

We had a wonderful stay with our family of four in Jasmin cottage. We had a warm and welcoming reception and enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful surroundings. The cottage was very comfortable and fully equipped for a family stay, and the toybox and colouring books in the children's room were especially appreciated. Having the option of a home cooked meal on arrival was wonderful! Aurelie and Lahcene went above and beyond when our car broke down and supported us in liaising with the garage. I will be recommending them to anyone wanting to stay in Brittany. Top marks all round!

Richard, London

We had a lovely relaxing stay at Orchid Barn. We enjoyed walking in the local area and finishing the day chilling in the hot tub! A big bonus was very good wifi connection, especially when we had to do a little bit of "work from home". Aurelie was a wonderful host and very attentive to check that we had everything that we needed and resolve any issues like a flat tyre on the bike. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here and look forward to returning soon.

Rhianna, Jersey

We had such a lovely week staying in Jasmine Cottage. The cottage itself has everything you need. It is a restful space and is just as pretty in real life as it looks in the photographs. The Hosts are very friendly and helpful with recommendations. Such a lovely place.

Location

The neighbourhood

A beautiful rural area, criss-crossed by footpaths and dotted with farms and villages like sleepy Langoëlan three minutes’ drive away and with two good restaurants. Thursday is market day in medieval Guémené-sur-Scorff, a 10-minute drive, with its Roman bath, ruined castle and good restaurants. It’s 25 minutes to the large market town of Pontivy on the Nantes-Brest canal for half-timbered houses.

Local points of interest from Aurelie Loigerot

  • Central location allowing easy access and driving to local villages and towns. Coastal areas within an hour or so drive.
  • Surrounded by beautiful countryside and wildlife, without overlooking neighbours and no passing traffic. Set in a private Hamlet which is tranquil and peaceful. Listen to the birdsong, relax and unwind. A haven for butterflies too!
  • With no light pollution many nights provide a stunning night sky enabling you to see all the major northern hemisphere constellations, and the milky way on clear nights. Also the occasional shooting star to make a wish on.
  • Complimentary welcome hamper full of goodies sourced locally if available. Complimentary toiletries, fresh towels and luxury bedding included.
  • Many local daily markets to browse and barter. Many hidden Brocantes (bric-a-brac & antiques) to explore and pick up bargains and gain some insight into Breton culture and history.
